The Weekend Roundup

I sell office supplies.  I have mentioned this before, and this is not an ad.  It is how I explain why I spend a bunch of time every week scanning the news of the industry.  I do this to stay current as well as to find material to bring to this blog.  I have noticed a couple of things about the news that have lead me to start this new “weekly feature” that I am calling, in what surely will be my most creative outburst today, The Weekend Roundup.  What I have noticed is, is that a story I pass over on a Monday, will keep appearing all week, leading me to believe that I have missed something.  Or I will mark a something as a good blog idea so that I can come back to it later, and when I do, while a cool item, I feel like it does not merit an entire post on it’s own.  I can’t keep piling them up, because next week will have it’s own slate of news to talk about.  So, The Weekend Review is born, a collection of links to some of the stories and items I did not get to this week but bear reading from office supply fans everywhere, like me.

If you have any comments, please email me here.  (And I won’t repeat the lengthy intro each week, in case that is the first thing that pops into your head.)

Simple Tips for a Greener Office, from the Los Angeles Times

Corporate Express rejects Staple’s takeover bid…these corporate giants are ripping off the little office supply users, (find their profit margins on their financial statements, or believe me when I tell you Staples overall, has a near 30% profit margin) and if this deal happens, this will only make matters worse for the average buyer of supplies…find an independent office supply dealer in your town, you will be glad you did, and if you are near St. Louis, you just found one.

Some staggering stats on paper consumption over at the Green is Sexy blog

The state of Georgia cancels Office Depot Contract over pricing irregularities…what was I saying about finding an independent dealer?   Oh yeah….you need to use one.

PC Magazine on buying yourself your own laser printer, maybe an overlooked option?

Thanks for reading, have a great weekend, and I will be back soon with more.
